Authorities have reported that, after being rushed to the hospital from her home and more than an hour of trying to revive her, Afeni Shakur has passed away this morning.Reports have been made that she suffered from a “cardiac event” although coroner’s investigation will confirm this.

Formerly a Black Panther, but more famously known as the mother of rap legend, Tupac, Afeni was 69 years old. She spent the better years of her life as a political activist, becoming a large influence in her son’s music, and then a guardian over Tupac’s legacy after his death in ’96.

Afeni has become an icon in her own right to the hip hop community, continuing on her son’s work with, most notably, the 2003 film ‘Tupac Resurrection’. It’s clear that a mother’s work is never done and legends do live on; Afeni will receive credit as executive producer in the upcoming Tupac biopic ‘All Eyez On Me’.

Rest in Peace, dear mama.
