In one of the most interesting performances we’ve seen thus far at Bluesfest, CeeLo Green took the Claridge Homes stage under skies threatening to thunder and rain on his parade. Despite the impending weather, the audience was packed, amped, and ready to see the ‘F*ck You’ artist perform. First to enter the stage was CeeLo’s throne which, at first, we thought was a little extravagant and then learned it was for practical reasons due to a fractured foot. Even though he warned his fans that he may need to sit down due to his injury, his energetic performance never wavered and only sat down for brief moments. In his leopard, silk robes and a gold medallion, CeeLo belted out a set-list mainly composed of song covers (with his own lyrics), a few originals, and, of course, the famous Gnarles Barkley hit ‘Crazy’. “We exhaust a lot of energy up here, regardless of how cool we make it look– and we do make it look cool” he says, in an artist-to-audience pact to give each other the same level of energy. In true artist form, despite the sweltering Ottawa heat and a fractured foot, CeeLo gave a larger- than-life performance to his Canadian fans.
