Drake is known for taking some interesting routes to dropping projects, like posting obscure billboards around Toronto and releasing surprise albums late at night. But this one is a little different. There’s been social media buzz about Drake running around doing various charitable acts. At first, we thought it was just some feel-good stuff, but it was later revealed to be something much bigger. God’s plan.
Calling it the most important thing he’s ever done in his career, the “God’s Plan” video was underway with a message more significant now than ever. It’s no surprise that videos cost a lot to produce; With almost a million dollar budget for one video, Drake did something unprecedented– he gave it all away. To children’s hospitals, fire stations, college student’s tuitions, families in need, and so many more, he donated his entire video allowance to people who need it more. This coming just after the announcement that he and the Raptors franchise were putting forth $3 million to community basketball courts and Basketball Canada. Drake is feeling charitable as hell these days.
The video itself, directed by Director X, is a beautiful timeline of what Drake has been up to in the last little while– helping people and spreading love, most importantly, and making us all feel like we’re cutting onions. In recent events and the overall way of the world lately, this video is much-needed and much-appreciated. The second single off “Scary Hours”, “Gods Plan” is now in its 3rd week on top of Billboard’s Hot 100 charts.
