Back in March, British Columbia rapper, Merkules, embarked on an impressive 24 date tour across Canada with special guests Geoff English, Blaze On3, and Luca Melee, and Dirty Doc. More than halfway through the tour, the StompDown Killaz descended upon our quiet city of Ottawa last night to perform at The Bourbon Room presented by Diamond Mine Agency and Left Lane Music. The Canadian rapper’s hilarious antics play a major part in him being one of the most entertaining characters we’ve seen perform live– but there’s more. Self-dubbed as “your mom’s favourite fat kid”, sense of humour is obviously a major piece of his personality, but Merkules is also an insanely hard worker; At a young age with an intense work ethic, he has already shared the stage with names like Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, D-12, Talib Kweli, Tech N9ne, and a heavy roster of even more names.

Last night’s performance was a short one, but packed a solid punch filled with animated energy, crass lyrics, and raspy vocals. Loyal Merkules fans dressed in their StompDown Killaz gear lined up front-stage for an intimate show and maybe to be the first ones to catch his shirt when it would inevitably come flying off. Taking shots on stage with the crowd, rapping into camera phones for snapchat, and staying to sign autographs at the end, Merkules proves why his fans love him as much as they do. If you missed it, we were up front and centre for it all for our readers; We also caught up with him backstage for some exclusive shots– check it out below.
