A sticky, 35-degree opening day of Ottawa Bluesfest had security already pulling out hoses to cool down a slew of concert-goers. Despite the heat, the Claridge stage brought out a jam-packed crowd of young and rambuncious fans for Cali rapper ScHoolboy Q. There were chants for the man of the year to enter the stage but his DJ prompted the crowd to get crazy before he would– and they did. Finally ScHoolboy came bounding onto the stage in a bright orange dashiki shirt and, surprisingly, NOT a bucket hat.

Flashing a mouth full of gold, he smiled and surveyed the crowd, making numerous remarks about how wild and “fucked up” they were. Q was evidently on a high in the midst of his new LP release ‘Blank Face’, excitedly sharing with his fans that, even though his new album drops in just 3 hours, he still wanted to perform for them. The crowd turned up to tracks like “That Part”, “Man of The Year” and “Studio” among many more on a setlist of bangers.
