Sean Price (Heltah Skeltah) Dies at 43

Posted: August 08th, 2015

Waking up to the news of another lost legend is not quite what the hip hop world expected today. Sean Price, of Heltah Skeltah and Boot Camp Click, reportedly passed away this morning. Details surrounding his death are still unknown; A statement from his reps reads “It is with beyond a heavy heart that Duck Down Music is sadly confirming that Sean Price passed away early this morning in his Brooklyn apartment, Saturday, August 8th, 2015. The cause of death is currently unknown, but it was reported that he died in his sleep. He’s survived by his wife, and his three children.” He had just turned 43 years old in March.

Rising to fame under the name Ruck as one half of Heltah Skeltah in the 90s, Sean Price became an integral and beloved cog in the hip hop community. Whether in a group or solo, the New York rapper steadily commanded rap’s attention; He released three solo albums: 2005 Monkey Barz, 2007 Jesus Price Supastar, and 2012 Mic Tyson. It was said Price had recently been working on an album with rapper Ill Bill.

The video below is the last time we at Envy Magazine were given the honor to see Sean P perform live. The show took place with Smif-n-Wessun and Buckshot at Ritual Nightclub (Ottawa) in 2011.

Rest in ruckus, Sean Price.
